The weather is warming up a bit, which just might motivate you to take the family somewhere extra special this weekend. How about the zoo, a chili cook-off or a secret garden?

SATURDAY

FAMILY FREE DAY AT THE ZOO!
Saturday is another "Family Free Day" at the Milwaukee County Zoo! So, pack up the family and head out in the nice winter weather for a day with the animals.

SUNDAY

ROCKABILLY CHILI
It's time for Milwaukee to start gearing up for WMSE's biggest fundraiser, the eighth annual "Rockabilly Chili Contest" to benefit WMSE. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the MSOE Kern Center, 1245 N. Broadway. This year, the family-friendly fest steps up with 48 restaurants serving 57 chilis (15 veggie and 42 meat)! Tickets are $6 and each chili sample is just a buck; bring two or more non-perishable food items and snag an extra chili ticket.

ALL WEEKEND LONG

OPEN THE "SECRET GARDEN"
One of the most beloved works of children's literature, "The Secret Garden," is a bouquet of delights for the ears and imagination. Acacia Theatre Company performs playwright Pamela Sterling's award-winning adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic novel this weekend in Concordia University Wisconsin's Todd Wehr Auditorium, 12800 N. WINTER POW WOW
Indian Summer Festivals hosts its 19th Winter Pow Wow at the State Fair's Wisconsin Products Pavilion this weekend. "Pow Wow time" is the Native American people's way of meeting together to dance, sing, renew old friendships and make new ones. An extensive marketplace featuring Native arts and crafts, jewelry, apparel, books, herbs and traditional foods such as fry bread and Indian tacos will be available. Kid-friendly foods such as hot dogs and soft drinks will also be on hand, too. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7 per person; elders 60 and over are $5; children 12 and under are admitted for free.
