The Skylight Opera Theatre launched a new outreach initiative for kids called "Herman the Horse: A Healthy Tail." The show is a fun and silly children's opera that weaves the music of Puccini, Rossini, Verdi, Mozart, Offenbach and more into a tale of healthy eating and fun activity to help combat childhood obesity.

Since 1980, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's College for Kids and College for Teens programs provided a wide range of classes for young people from kindergarden through high school. Currently, the programs offer 190 summer classes that attract more than 2,000 school-aged Milwaukeeans.

Catherine Andersen's four-week program involves a series of indoor and outdoor activities to introduce the body to a rotating series of activities including hiking, kickboxing, yoga, Pilates and weights. By constantly changing up the cardio and strengthening schedule, Andersen believes her program prevents both muscle lethargy and participant boredom.
